350 Climate Rally and Green Fair
Saturday, 24 October, 2009 - 11:00
On October 24th, a group of college students, representing Birmingham-Southern College's enAct (Students Engaged Actively in Environmental Issues) and C.A.S.E. (the Coalition of Alabama Students for the Environment) will host a state-wide 350 Climate Rally at the college. Attracting co-sponsorship and national progressive organizations such as the Oxfam America, Campus Progress, and 350.org, and state-wide environmental action groups such as the Alabama Environmental Council and Energize Alabama, the event will bring together a community of national and local environmental experts, university leaders (from University of Alabama-Birmingham and Samford University) and Academia's , neighborhood associations, religious communities, and students alike, together in one place for one number: 350. Most importantly, Alabama's political leaders will be invited to attend and share their voice in what Alabama's government is doing to address this important issue.
We invite you to participate in an iconic action, as a crowd of over 300 environmental activists, people of faith, students, and concerned Alabamiams for one photo, one action, to share with the rest of the world (over 200 countries!). Birmingham's photo will be featured as one of the most iconic events in the U.S. -- Please arrive no later than 11 30 AM for the photo.
We invite political leaders to share their voice and leadership of the role Alabama's government will play in addressing an issue affecting generations to come. Please arrive no later than 12 30 to hear your political leaders.
We invite Alabama's environmental experts, non-profits, student groups, and businesses to feature their sustainable practices in addressing climate change: in how we power our homes, deal with our waste, and conserve our land. For the Climate Fair please arrive no later than 1 PM.
