10/10 Work Party/Mass Bike Ride/Community Event
Sunday, 10 October, 2010 - 14:00 - 16:00
We will meet for a bike ride to downtown at the UNCW Bell-tower at 2 pm. We will be streaming a banner calling on politicians to pass climate legislation. Getting as many people involved in the bike ride as possible is important, as we will be communicating the message that you don’t always need to drive everywhere; reducing your carbon footprint isn’t as hard as it sounds! Be sure to wear the color red to increase our visibility on the ride.
Then we will meet downtown on the river walk at 2:45 for a photo which we will send to 350.org to document our event!
Afterward we will walk to Front Street (the park across from Front Street Brewery) for a talk on the climate situation by Andy Wood with the Audubon Society and what we can do in our communities followed by candidates Jim Leutze and Susi Hamilton giving a briefing on their commitment to environmental justice (until about 3:45).
To show our commitment the rest of the afternoon will be spent helping out at our neighborhood community gardens. This will conclude the event, which will also take place downtown at two locations: 4th & Castle or 5th & Dawson.
Spread the word! Bring your friends!
