10:10:10 Uk Student PassivHaus Conference & Ice Challenge

Sunday, 10 October, 2010 - 09:30 - 18:00

The objective of the PassivHaus Student Conference is to gather architecture & environmental design students, researchers and their lecturers to share, debate and discuss the work we do in relation to the international PassivHaus standard and the use of PHPP.

This one day event, hosted by the MA Architecture: Sustainability & Design at the University of East London, will be an opportunity to discuss and compare the work we do, what we have learned, how it applies in practice and where we go from here.

On the 10th October 2010, the PassivHaus Student Conference is an opportunity to establish networks and links and bring together expertise for a low carbon building industry.

ICE CHALLENGE EVENT ( Sept 22nd- Oct 10th)

The aim is to build two near identical ‘Ice Test Cells’ from sponsored and donated materials. One is to be build to UK Building Regulations standard, the other to PassivHaus standards.

The aim of the ‘ice cells’ is to compare how quick the ice melts in cells built to different standards, while the weather is also monitored and logged. Air-tightness testing will be undertaken on several occasions to gain hands-on experience and understanding of what ‘ air-tightness’ means, and how this is achieved in relation to the required standards. The air-tightness testing will also ensure the correct standards are build to and that our comparative method to monitor the ice-melting is appropriately accurate.

The construction & monitoring process culminates in the UK student PassivHaus conference, held Sunday Oct 10th at UEL. A final live air-testing will be undertaken on the day and the ice-melting process recorded and communicated.
