Climate Change Caravan
From the 15th of November to the 4th of December, a climate change caravan will begin its journey across the length of Bangladesh. From Sonarhat in the north to Barisal down south, the caravan will cover 18 different sub districts in the country to document and carry with it the stories of climate change, gender and food sovereignity. Being organized by Bangladesh Krishok Federation and Bangladesh Kishani Sabha, the caravan is a one of its kind rally providing an opportunity for people across the world to get a first hand view of the issues facing Bangladesh and learn from her people.
Workshops, education programs, awareness on issues of gender and food security, connecting with international solidarity groups are some of the means to build a movement across Bangladesh against climate change. The vulnerabiity of Bangladesh to climate change is a worrying factor for its Government and the people who have already begun experiencing the brunt of climate change. Frequent cyclones, unusually dry seasons, sea level rise are some of the many impacts facing the country.
BKF and BKS are accepting people from various parts of the world to join this caravan. The organizers are encouraging participants from outside Bangladesh to be a part of the caravan and experience the stories from the people at the grassroutes. The cost incurred by participants from the northern countries will also be used to support a Bangaldeshi or a South Asian to participate in the Caravan. The deadline for applying is the 24th of August and the necessary information can be found here.
We hope that the carvan will result in greater understanding and appreciation of the dangers of climate change and the voices of those impacted will reach those who can make the right policies to tackle this crisis.
