Hyderabad Marathon Runs to 350
Raghu, Vikram, Biswas and Caroline (all members of Indian Youth Climate Network and Vikram and Biswas are heads of Hyderabad Climate Alliance), together with the inspiration of Jacob, a marathon runner living in Hyderabad, had an amazing early morning of 350 at the Hyderabad Marathon. More than 500 participants were running this morning, including hundreds from the Hyderabad Policy Academy and the Indian army. 50 enthusiastic runners and friends of Jacob's wore Indian Youth Climate Network and Greenpeace-Solar Generation stickers on their shirts throughout the race. Before the start of the half marathon, we took pictures with the Andhra Pradesh Policy Academy, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Hyderabad (in the center of the image). As the winners of the race came through the finish line, we talked to the top 5 finishers, all of whom were excited about supporting 350 and are in the image below with their medals. The police academy was thrilled about the program, and we filmed them all saying 350 in English, Hindi, and Telugu! They were almost too excited to have it heard very clearly, but the videos will be uploaded soon. The Hyderabad Climate Alliance will be presenting on climate change at the police academy in the near future, and many of the competitors were interested in running for 350 at the Hyderabad 10K in late October! We were able to speak during the prize ceremony to the entire audience about the importance of addressing climate change to maintain a climate where we could have marathons in Hyderabad and the fact that improving public transportation and using cleaner energy will protect the air and our running lungs as well! We're all running on the road to 350!!
Understanding 350
- So, what is global warming and what's the problem anyway?
- And what does this 350 number even mean?
- If we're already past 350, are we all doomed?
- How do we get the world on track to get to 350?
- How do we actually reduce carbon emissions to get to 350??
- Will this thing work? Will world leaders listen?
- Where did this 350 number come from?
- Isn't America the biggest source of the problem? What about China and India?
- 350 is just a number. Wouldn't "Climate Emergency" or "Clean Energy Now" be a better call to action?
- Why another organization--there are already too many things going on!
