(MOVED) Community Gardening work party (MOVED)

Sunday, 10 October, 2010 - 09:00 - 10:00

*** Unfortunately this event will not go ahead at the Stafford Heights location but all interested community gardeners are strongly encouraged to go along to the event "33 laura street neigbourhood food garden: Vege Patch Preparation and Planting" or one of the other awesome events happening in Brisbane on 10/10/10. See the "locate event" page under 10/10/10 for more details. The Laura Street event will involve many wonderful friendly people and the plan is to move from there to a nearby cafe where a "permablitz" is occuring... this means even more people and heaps of amazing work to see and help with, plus food and festivities. Should be great!

[organisers note: the community garden at St Clements is a great place for an event like this but I only just realised today that sunday morning is not a great time for an event at a church. All of the people who are regularly involved in the garden will be involved in worship activities. But please do come along to one of our regular community gardening days on the last saturday of each month from 7am onwards. Sorry for the inconvenience!]

*** Details of Laura Street event:

Preparation and planting of another vegetable patch in a communal share house garden that is being developed as a demonstration of what can be done with food growing in an urban environment. This garden is visually open to the street and one large productive bed has been developed outside the fence with neighbors encouraged to harvest. Other existing beds on multiple terrace levels are very productive also. Active composting and rainwater harvest is occurring on site. The property also hosts community events.

After this event we will head over to the Permablitz happening on Hardgrave Road where, to quote from their event;
"We'll be preparing garden beds and swales, building a worm farm and water tank stand - there'll be a communal vegetarian meal & new friends to meet, so bring a trowel, cardboard or old newspapers & a smile!"
