PS 166's Big Green Halloween

Sunday, 25 October, 2009 - 11:00

PS 166 is a public elementary school on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. "Big Green Halloween," - the school's first green fundraiser - will take place on Sunday, October 25th, 2009 from 11:00am to 5:00pm on West 89th Street between Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues (our rain date)! This parent-run festival will feature tons of old-fashioned fun: popular rides, a cake walk, costume contest, a very scary Haunted House, and tile, pumpkin and cupcake decorating. Stiltwalkers and surprise costumed guests will mingle with the crowd. A magic show, a world-record-holding contortionist, and a live band will provide entertainment. There will be great food and baked goods, drinks from dispensers (no bottled water), and a Farmer's Market courtesy of Katchkie Farm - a 60-acre organic farm in Columbia County, NY dedicated to supporting sustainable agriculture. Big Green Halloween will also feature composting demos, eco-friendly crafts and prizes, textile recycling, compost bins for food scraps, and green information booths by Transportation Alternatives, Urban Organic, Council on the Environment of New York City, EcoPlum and more.

For our 350.org action, that will have to take place on Sunday, October 25th due to inclement weather, we will have local 350.org/NYPIRG/1SKY volunteers help kids color a 350 banner. Information about 350.org will be available on the table. When the banner is finished, it will be held up for a photo op. The image of the children's colored banner will be e-mailed to 350.org for inclusion on the website.
