"Take the Pledge!" Ditch the Water Bottles! 10/8/10

Friday, 8 October, 2010 - 14:30 - 15:30

The University of Chicago Laboratory High School students invite all parties who wish to make a difference in our environment to "Take the Pledge!" Please join students, faculty and the Lab Community by signing a personal pledge to eliminate the use of disposable plastic water bottles.
Bonus: a UC Sustainability Council mug for everyone who attends!

Facts you should know about bottle water's environmental impact:

* 60 Million plastic bottles a day are disposed of in America alone!
* Massive amounts of greenhouse gases are produced from manufacturing the plastic bottles.
* Millions of gallons of fuel are wasted daily transporting filtered tap water across America and around the world.
* It requires 3 times as much water to make the bottle as it does to fill it... it is an exceptionally wasteful industry.

Please join the "party" where your presence publicly states your commitment to a more sustainable environment and greater social responsibility.

If you can't make the event but wish to participate, email your pledge to greeninglabinitiative@ucls.uchicago.edu.
