'Uiha Island Community Nursery
Saturday, 9 October, 2010 - 10:00 - 15:00
We will clean and upgrade the existing 'Uiha Nursery, so that the villagers can start seedlings for endangered plants, especially culturally significant and medicinal plants. We will need to mend the fence, fix the sign, and are currently applying for a 350.org Pacific Greengrant to fund the building of a greenhouse within the Nursery lot. Currently the Nursery is not used and the original greenhouse/shed was burned down several years ago. Through this action, we hope to build a renewed interest and commitment to utilize the 'Uiha Nursery and propagate medicinal & culturally significant but endangered plants, working towards a secure & safe climate future.

Event Host: The Motuha Project is hosting this 10/10/10 Work Day. The Motuha Project is a sustainable living eco-tourism project based on 8-acres of beachfront land on 'Uiha Island in the remote Ha'apai Group of Tonga. The Motuha Project focuses on doing land conservation and promoting sustainable living & environmental education in the community. As our first Community Project, we are initiating a tree and plant propagation program. We welcome visitors and "voluntourists" who wish to learn about sustainable living on a beautiful, pristine Pacific island while engaging in community service.
