White House Rally and City-Wide Work Party: "Get to Work Obama!"
Sunday, 10 October, 2010 - 10:00 - 18:00
The world is waiting for Washington DC to get to work on real climate solutions. But while our leaders in Congress and the White House have been dragging their feet, the people of DC have been very busy leading the way to a healthier climate and community.
This October 10, 2010 the 30+ organizations of the DC 10/10 coalition will unite for a city wide series of work parties showcase the many ways Washingtonians have been getting to work on climate solutions. We’ll show the world what real climate leadership looks like, and encourage our neighbors in the White House and on Capital Hill to finally follow our lead.
The centerpiece of the day will be a “White House Work Party” featuring the man who brought us the number 350 – climate science legend Dr. James Hansen. Alongside other star speakers including Joe Romm, Lester Brown, Reverend Lennox Yearwood, Phaedra Ellis Lamkins, and DC Councilmember Mary Cheh, Dr. Hansen will call on the President to get to work on leading a national and global policy push toward 350. We'll celebrate president Obama's recent decision to put solar on the White House roof and call on him to show the same kind of leadership when it comes to passing strong climate policies nationally and internationally.

Other events around the city will amplify the “get to work” on climate solutions message including a bike ride on the city’s new Capital Bikeshare bikes, a local food block party, a solar installation, free home energy assessments, and a free community potluck. We may even do a giant aerial photograph of the number 350 on the ellipse to be taken from the Washington Monument! And the list goes on!
**TRANSIT ALERT**: The WMATA reports that the McPherson Square and Farrgut West metro stations (serving the White House) will be closed on Sunday. Rally attendees are advised to use Farragut North station on the Red Line to reach the event.
