Kiribati Delegation Reflective Evening
Monday, 11 October, 2010 - 17:30 - 20:30
You are warmly invited to share a meal and take part in an evening of reflections on the experiences, learnings and outcomes of the delegation Patrick Dodson recently led to Kiribati. Please RSVP and bring some food to share.
Delegation members met with many leaders in Kiribati eg President Anote Tong, village elders from remote islands, young people concerned about their future, teachers, activists and community members. Discussions were held to help plan for the UNFCCC in Cancun. Most importantly, the delegation members listened to messages from the people. eg
'We will struggle with what we have because it is the only island we have....' (elder from Aororae - Kiribati's most southern island)
'It is important that Makin people do not disappear....' elder from Makin island - Kiribati's most northern island.
And delegation members took time out during the visit to reflect on what they were seeing and hearing eg:
'People's resilience is their best asset in sustaining patience in the lack of government's capacity to influence circumstance generated by developed nations...' reflection by PCP delegation member
