350.org Reacts to Outcome of First Ministers’ Climate Meeting – Real Climate Action Means #KeepItInTheGround

Vancouver, Canada — Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is meeting with Premiers from across Canada to discuss the roadmap for a National Climate Plan in Canada.

Cameron Fenton, 350.org Canadian Tar Sands Campaign Manager, said: “People in Canada want the federal government to take bold, science-based climate action and that means a legitimate climate plan needs to keep fossil fuels in the ground. We can build a 100% renewable energy economy that enshrines justice & reconciliation for Indigenous peoples, but only if the government listen to people, not pipeline companies and big polluters”.

Clayton Thomas Muller, 350.org Stop It At The Source Campaigner, said: “Canada’s National Climate Plan has to start with the governments promise to implement the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Free Prior and Informed Consent starts with making sure that justice and reconciliation for Indigenous Peoples is at the core of this climate plan.”
