June 30, 2016 (Winnipeg, MB) — In response to today’s decision by the Federal Court of Appeal to reverse Canada’s approval of Enbridge’s Northern Gateway pipeline, 350.org Stop it at the Source campaigner Clayton Thomas-Muller issued the following statement:
“The review of Enbridge’s Northern Gateway pipeline, weakened further by Stephen Harper’s dismantling of real review standards, took place well before Canada committed to fully implement the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Today’s decision should serve as an important precedent, and sends a clear message to Prime Minister Trudeau while his government decides the fate of the Kinder Morgan pipeline — you can’t push pipelines and respect Indigenous rights.”
