350.org Responds To NEB announcement on Energy East

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

June 16, 2016 (Montreal, QC) — In reaction to today’s NEB announcement on Energy East, Aurore Fauret, Energy East Organiser with 350.org, issued this response:

“Today’s NEB launch of the review process for the Energy East pipeline takes place in the middle of growing public opposition to the project across the country. Any credible pipeline review that listens to communities, respects climate science, and honours the rights of Indigenous Peoples in Canada will find that this pipeline simply cannot be built. No matter the NEB’s decision, Indigenous peoples, and the people of Quebec and Canada will continue to show their resolve to move us beyond tar sands expansion projects such as this pipeline. It’s far time Canada stop considering outdated fossil fuel projects that we know to be incompatible with real climate action, and start taking real steps to keep fossil fuels in the ground and accelerate the transition towards the 100% renewable energy economy that we need.”
