Switch off Tata Mundra

The World Bank refuses to recognize its own policy violations and the serious impacts of financing a deadly coal plant in Mundra, India. Let’s put pressure on World Bank’s president, Dr. Jim Kim, and make them stop ignoring the facts.

Keep it in the Ground: Sweden

The Swedish government recently allowed state-owned company Vattenfall to sell their coal reserves in Germany — a decision  which means the release of at least 24x Sweden’s annual carbon emissions if that coal is burnt. In response, people are pledging to organise and escalate actions to keep fossil fuels in the ground.

Fossil Free

The Fossil Free campaign is building a global movement to divest from fossil fuels. If it’s wrong to wreck the climate, it’s wrong to profit from that wreckage.

Zero Offshore Drilling

The Obama Administration just released the latest draft of their offshore drilling plan. Thanks to grassroots pressure, the plan no longer includes an expansion of drilling off the Atlantic seaboard, as had been expected. That’s a win for people power — but a partial one. The current version of this plan still allows drilling in the Arctic and off the Gulf Coast. And that’s still unacceptable. We’re calling on President Obama to say no to all new offshore drilling. That includes zero new drilling in the Arctic and zero new drilling off the Gulf Coast.

#ExxonKnew

Recent reports have shown that Exxon may have known about the threat of climate change decades ago. Yet over the course of nearly forty years, the company has contributed millions of dollars to think-tanks and politicians that have done their best to spread doubt and misinformation — first on the existence of climate change, then the extent of the problem, and now its cause. If Exxon intentionally misled the public about climate change and fossil fuels, then they should be held accountable. We’re calling for an immediate investigation.

Stop the TPP!

The Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement — a trade deal being negotiated between dozens of countries — is the fossil fuel industry’s latest tool to shut down climate action, and we’re joining a huge coalition to stop it.

The TPP would give foreign fossil fuel corporations the right to sue city, state and national governments if climate action hurts their profits. It’s an enormous corporate power grab and it threatens to undermine climate progress around the world.

Exxon Killed The Reef

This year, the world witnessed the most devastating mass coral bleaching event ever recorded which left behind dead reefs in at least 38 countries. Many of these reefs will never recover.

The immediate cause is clear: the ongoing rise in global ocean temperatures that comes from climate change. But that’s like saying “he was killed by a bullet.” The important question is: who fired the gun?

It’s time for us to point the finger so that the world knows:

Exxon and their fossil fuel peers killed our reefs, and every day they continue to pollute they are knowingly putting our natural world — and all of us — in further danger.

Break Free from Fossil Fuels

World governments have agreed to global action — but without a clear commitment on how and when they will transition off of fossil fuels. The way to make that transition a reality is by organizing to keep coal, oil and gas in the ground and accelerate the just transition to 100% renewable energy. It’s time to break free from fossil fuels, and it’s up to the people to make it happen. Break Free will be a series of major coordinated actions around the globe that will take on the world’s biggest fossil fuel projects and companies.

Divest for Paris

The Road Through Paris

On December 12th, 2015, world governments meeting in Paris produced a landmark climate agreement. The deal followed two weeks of intense negotiations and waves of global mobilization by the climate movement. While there’s so much this deal leaves undone and so much work still to do, the Paris Agreement does finally send a signal to the world that the age of fossil fuels is over. Now it’s up to us to close the gap between rhetoric and reality. We’re ready.
