I’m appalled. Enraged. Heartbroken.
Yesterday, Carney announced a toxic deal with the Government of Alberta to build a massive tar sands pipeline from Alberta to the northwest coast – despite steadfast opposition from First Nations and people across BC. This pipeline would be the reincarnation of the Northern Gateway Pipeline, a project that faced massive resistance from climate activists and land defenders alike, and was scrapped after the Gitxaala Nation successfully defeated its approval in court.
The news doesn’t stop there. In a shocking move, the announcement promised to backtrack nearly every climate policy we won over the last decade. In effect, Carney delivered the fossil fuel industry’s wish list on a golden platter. We cannot stand by and let this happen.
On Tuesday, Dec 9th, we’re holding an urgent Resistance Call to equip everyone with concrete next steps to push back on Carney’s fossil fuel agenda: will you join us? Here are all the details.
What: Reject Climate Chaos – Resistance Call
When: Tuesday Dec 9 at 4:00 pm Pacific / 5:00 pm Mountain / 6:00 pm Central / 7:00 pm Eastern / 8:00 pm Atlantic
Where: Zoom
Yesterday’s deal is a massive betrayal. PM Carney and Alberta Premier, Danielle Smith, joined forces to revive a zombie pipeline designed to transport 1 million barrels of toxic tar sands oil every single day – a dead-end pipedream that is economically nonsensical, environmentally catastrophic, and doesn’t have the consent of impacted Indigenous nations.
Then they went the extra mile – Carney is completely capitulating to Big Oil by gutting key federal climate policies.
The pollution cap on the fossil fuel industry? Gone.
Clean electricity regulations? Eliminated for Alberta and fully scrapped soon enough.
BC’s northern tanker ban? Compromised.
Methane reduction plans? Delayed by 5 years.
Industrial carbon pricing? Watered down.
Everything we’ve fought for is on the chopping block. This is not the time to sit back. We must stand up and fight back for our future. Join our resistance call on Tuesday Dec 9th.
