Standing in solidarity with Climate Defenders

Climate Defenders risk their lives everyday

People who are leading the defense of Mother Earth: protecting ecosystems, the commons, and fighting to keep fossil fuels in the ground, come up against brutal vested interests. These political elites, corrupt governments and unaccountable corporations do not hesitate to use threats or violence to protect their capital and power.

And this trend unfortunately, may escalate given the political shift of many governments towards more industrialization and neo-liberalization. It has never been a riskier time to protect the climate, land, water or forests from destruction by greedy governments, corporations and organised crime. Yet, to have hope of preventing climate chaos, we need many many more people stepping up to be climate activists and defenders.

Fighting for climate justice is fighting against these elites, therefore it’s a fight for democracy and for human rights. We must be in solidarity with the Defenders.

According to Global Witness, 60% of deaths occur in Latin America, and Brazil is the country where most activists are killed in defense of life.
