Stand in Solidarity with Indigenous Leaders in Brazil!

Indigenous People play a crucial role in finding solutions to the climate crisis rooted in justice, respect and care for our planet. They recognize that the time to act is now.

Next year, Brazil will host the UN’s climate talks, COP30 in the Brazilian Amazon. But its Indigenous leaders and communities are being sidelined from these critical discussions.

Right now, Indigenous leaders of Brazil are urging their government to give them a seat at the table as co-hosts of COP30.

Indigenous knowledge is the key to creating just climate policies and solutions to climate impacts. It is also crucial to protecting the Amazon rainforest. The Amazon plays an essential role in regulating the Earth’s climate by absorbing carbon dioxide.

Sign this petition to support the Indigenous The Answer Is Us campaign. Tell Brazil’s government to accept its Indigenous Peoples as co-hosts of COP30.

COP-30 will be held in our territory. We will not accept that discussions take place without the proper consultation and participation of our voices and our climate authority. Nothing that threatens the future of life will be tolerated.We claim the co-presidency of COP-30 in Brazil and:
We demand the end of the fossil fuel era and a just energy transition;
We demand more ambitious and direct climate financing for the peoples who live in harmony with Nature and those most affected by the climate crisis;
We demand ambitious climate plans, especially from the countries that contribute the most to greenhouse gas emissions;
We demand a comprehensive and integrated protection of all biomes: the Amazon, the forests, oceans, and soils, the planet’s main natural carbon sinks;
We demand the recognition and protection of Indigenous lands to be recognized as a fundamental climate policy and included as a mitigation target in the review of Brazil’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
We call on all Indigenous Peoples, partners, allies, and all who care about life on Earth to join our call to collectively hold up the sky. If it depends on us, the sky will not fall.

WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN HERE.

The uprising of the sky starts now.

THE ANSWER IS US.

Why is this important?

We, the Indigenous Peoples of Brazil, in the face of the gravity of the climate crisis, know that the time to act is now.

We know who is setting the planet on fire and we feel the devastating impacts in our territories and our lives: severe drought, forced isolation, diseases, lack of food, invasions, conflicts, and deaths.

With the imminent collapse of living conditions in the world, strong and effective actions must be taken. There will be no life on a burning planet.

The climate crisis is also a crisis of leadership and values. We have never given up on defending life, and we will not get lost in empty discussions and sterile commitments.

While governments continue to mediate insufficient targets and empty fundings, we want to announce that, from now on, we will take the lead in a global mobilization for life on the planet.
