350 East Africa

Defending frontline communities, and building a 100% renewable future through grassroots solidarity.

SWAYA

East Africa stands at a crossroads. As fossil fuel giants push multi-billion-dollar pipelines and gas projects that threaten ecosystems and lock our nations into debt, local communities bear the brunt of climate disasters like droughts and severe floods.

At 350 East Africa, we unite frontline communities, youth, faith leaders, and civil society to stop destructive projects like EACOP and drive a Just Energy Transition. We demand a shift from corporate-controlled extraction to decentralized, community-owned renewable energy that powers local people, protects our ecosystems, and secures green livelihoods.

Our Core Campaigns

REPower Afrika Lamps

REPower Africa

REPower Africa is a movement and organizing platform bridging resistance with solutions, connecting the fight against fossil fuel carbon bombs with a practical vision for community-owned renewable energy. Powered by the Afrika Vuka network, we unite local communities, faith leaders, and grassroots organizers from Uganda and Tanzania across the continent to put energy power back in the hands of the people.

We stand for shifting energy access away from corporate exploitation and toward local, decentralized renewable models that leave no one behind. By providing frontline struggles with clean, viable alternatives to dirty extraction projects, we fight to reverse carbon bombs while demanding concrete national policies that accelerate a fair fossil fuel phaseout. Through pan-African solidarity, we build synchronized movement hubs to turn local victories into continent-wide impact and a true Just Transition.

We pay, They Profit Campaign

The cost-of-living crisis and climate crisis share the same root cause. Ordinary people pay three times over - through sky-high fuel prices, tax-funded subsidies, and the crushing costs of extreme weather disasters. Meanwhile, big oil corporations pocket record massive profits.

Energy Affordability is a right. The We pay, They Profit campaign is shifting the narrative from energy poverty to renewable leadership by demanding massive investments in community-led solar, wind, and geothermal power across Africa. Redirect fossil subsidies and public funds into affordable, accessible clean energy grids. Energy Sovereignty is key to ensure energy infrastructure is owned, operated, and tailored to the needs of local communities.

Afrika Vuka Network

Afrika Vuka is a pan-African network of civil society organizations, grassroots groups, and climate activists coordinated by 350.org that serves as the connective tissue for climate justice across the continent. It drives this work through grassroots coalition building that unites local community groups across Africa into a unified regional front against fossil fuel exploitation.

Additionally, the movement provides shared resources and capacity by equipping local hubs with campaign toolkits, digital organising infrastructure, micro-grants, and legal support, while fostering pan-African solidarity by synchronising regional days of action so local fights resonate globally.
