The European Investment Bank wants to stop financing fossil fuels. But it needs the EU finance ministers to agree.

Germany is a key player at the Bank. Olaf Scholz, the German finance minister, holds the swing vote. But he’s under a lot of pressure from the fossil fuel industry, and his hesitance threatens to undermine the new game changing lending policy.

We urgently need to make our support for a #FossilFreeEIB visible!

1. “WHY ISN’T THE MEDIA COVERING THIS?”

We need big news outlets to run big stories to make sure the ministers feel the pressure. Germany, “Europe’s green leader”, standing in the way of a transition away from coal, oil and gas? That’s too much of a reputational risk!

Twitter is where journalists are. Click to send a tweet to some of the key media and ask them to write about Fossil Free EIB!

2. “DO THE MINISTERS KNOW WE CARE?”

They will, if they keep seeing our messages over and over, wherever they look.

The media is step one. Getting right into the social feeds is step two. And what better way to welcome them back after summer break than with a flood of postcards? As we say farewell to summer, let’s say it to fossil finance too!

Click to tweet a postcard directly at German ministers Olaf Scholz (finance) and Peter Altmeier (economy).

3. “AND IF I DON’T USE TWITTER?”

Not on twitter? No worries!

Share the postcard message on Facebook instead:

You can also click to download your favourite postcard and share it on Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #FossilFreeEIB.

Pro tip: download the file, print it at home and send it by regular post to the German Ministry of Finance. Then let us know you did.

4. “CAN I DO ANYTHING ELSE?”

Yes.

You can tell all your friends about this.
