Dans la petite communaut\u00e9 de Red Head pr\u00e8s de Saint John, au Nouveau Brunswick, quelque chose de jamais vu s\u2019est produit\u00a0: plus de 700 personnes ont march\u00e9 pour faire entendre leur opposition au projet d\u2019ol\u00e9oduc de TransCanada.<\/p>\n<p>Cette v\u00e9ritable mar\u00e9e humaine, une premi\u00e8re pour l\u2019opposition \u00e0 \u00c9nergie Est dans la province, a vu les peuples Autochtones, les syndicats, les p\u00eacheurs, les \u00e9tudiants, et les r\u00e9sidents de Red Head marcher c\u00f4te \u00e0 c\u00f4te dans les rues paisibles de la communaut\u00e9 qui marque le point final de l\u2019ol\u00e9oduc.<\/p>\n<p>C\u2019est l\u00e0 que le gigantesque projet d\u2019exportation des sables bitumineux acheminerait d\u2019Alberta 1,1 million de barils de p\u00e9trole par jour et installerait un parc de r\u00e9servoirs de stockage de 7,8 millions de barils de p\u00e9trole. Cette derni\u00e8re, r\u00e9cemment form\u00e9e, rassemble des peuples autochtones du Nouveau Brunswick et des organisations et r\u00e9sidents de la r\u00e9gion dans un front commun face aux projets d\u2019ol\u00e9oduc et d\u2019extraction et a proclam\u00e9 une d\u00e9claration de protection de l\u2019eau. Festive, familiale et haute en couleur, la marche est arriv\u00e9e sur la plage de la baie de Fundy pour former une grande chaine humaine symbolique, \u00e0 la suite d\u2019une c\u00e9r\u00e9monie sur la plage.<\/p>\n<p>D\u00e9montrant la force d\u2019un mouvement social qui s\u2019\u00e9tend partout o\u00f9 des projets destructeurs s\u2019implantent, des gens de tous horizons ont converg\u00e9 \u00e0 Red Head. Jasmine Thomas et Geraldine Flurer de la Yinka Dene Alliance ont partag\u00e9 leur exp\u00e9rience dans la d\u00e9fense du territoire face \u00e0 l\u2019ol\u00e9oduc Northern Gateway en Colombie-Britannique. Sarah Lachance du Maine a parl\u00e9 de la r\u00e9sistance locale au pipeline Montr\u00e9al-Portland. Preuve que cette mobilisation se fait remarquer, TransCanada a envoy\u00e9 son porte-parole Tim Duboyce sur place \u00e0 Saint John la journ\u00e9e m\u00eame pour r\u00e9agir \u00e0 la marche.<\/p>\n<p>Les pancartes \u00ab\u00a0Red Head is not for sale\u00a0\u00bb (<em>Red Head n\u2019est pas \u00e0 vendre<\/em>), plant\u00e9es sur les terrains des r\u00e9sidents et affich\u00e9es le long de la route dans la communaut\u00e9 d\u00e9montrent bien le c\u0153ur du probl\u00e8me\u00a0: que l\u2019on consid\u00e8re cet endroit comme une \u2018zone \u00e0 sacrifier\u2019 pour le b\u00e9n\u00e9fice d\u2019un gigantesque projet servant de puissants int\u00e9r\u00eats, alors qu\u2019une plus grande diversit\u00e9 \u00e9conomique est n\u00e9cessaire dans un coin du pays qui regorge de ressources alimentant l\u2019industrie de la p\u00eache et du tourisme. Dans un contexte d\u2019aust\u00e9rit\u00e9, l\u2019emprise qu\u2019exerce une compagnie comme Irving sur la politique locale rappelle l\u2019influence d\u00e9mesur\u00e9e de l\u2019industrie des sables bitumineux sur les d\u00e9cisions prises par le Canada \u2013 et qui nous entrainent dans la mauvaise direction en mati\u00e8re de climat.<\/p>\n<p>Mais le vent semble tourner pour les r\u00e9sidents \u00e0 la fin du trac\u00e9 d&rsquo;\u00c9nergie Est, qui se mobilisent avec des milliers d&rsquo;autres pour plus grande justice \u00e9conomique et environnementale. \u00c0 l\u2019heure o\u00f9 le secteur des \u00e9nergies renouvelables au Canada <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/report-on-business\/industry-news\/energy-and-resources\/green-energy-sector-jobs-surpass-oil-sand-employment-total\/article21859169\/\">g\u00e9n\u00e8re plus d\u2019emplois<\/a> et de perspectives d\u2019avenir que les projets des sables bitumineux, la population de l\u2019Alberta au Nouveau Brunswick est pr\u00eate \u00e0 entamer la transition vers une \u00e9conomie qui respecte les droits autochtones, et prot\u00e8ge nos \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes et notre climat.<\/p>\n<p>Ce samedi a signal\u00e9 un v\u00e9ritable momentum dans le mouvement d&rsquo;opposition aux sables bitumineux.
