Several people have written me asking what I make of the story that some stolen emails show a few English scientists talking about manipulating data related to climate. I’ve told reporters from numerous publications: if our fears about global warming stemmed form a few scientists, this would cause us to rethink them. But thousands and thousands of scientists–almost 2,000 won the Nobel Prize for their work for the IPCC–have demonstrated the trouble we’re in. And at this point the real whistle-blowers are the planet’s glaciers, sea ice, and hydrological cycles–as they shfit in dramatic ways, we see the reality of climate change. Which is to say I’m more worried about the weekend’s rainfall in Britain–the largest single downpour recorded since the first insturments went online in 1727. The world is changing fast and we need to take action. Now.
