Greetings from Malaysia! Our school, Kolej Tuanku Jaafar, has been actively promoting environmental awareness and action over the past year, thanks to the teachers and staffs who have been extremely supportive of our youth led initiatives. Some of our activities include tree planting, organising a green careers convention, and campaigning for 350 in our local shopping mall!  To say that the whole team worked hard would be an understatement because late nights, deadline frenzies, and stress were a norm when organising events. Oh, and throw in impending exams and university applications to the mix.

However, no matter how hard we worked our circle of impact is limited to our town which accounts for less than 1% of our country’s population.

Problem = Idea!

We thought why not have schools all around Malaysia doing what we do? That is how ladies and gentlemen, the Colour Me Green Campaign came about. It is an ongoing campaign to encourage youths all over Malaysia to start taking environmental action! Participants will have a range of tasks to complete like implementing environmental policies in their schools, organising and executing environmental projects, and making videos.

Their progress will be posted on their campaign blogs for the world to see; leadership by example personified.  We want everyone to send this message, “If we can do it, you can do it too!”.  Youths are also very in the art of social media; Facebook, Twitter, blogging, etc. So why not use it for a good cause?

We are thankful to have the support of Youth Asia, who has been very supportive in helping us spread the word on our campaign. Currently, we have more than two thousand youths all over Malaysia who are supporting us via their website

Recently, we also won the World Summit Youth Award. This weekend we will be heading to New York to meet the other youths from around the world who have also initiated exciting projects in their countries. Together we will be presenting our ideas to government representative, UN officials, and business executives. This award has opened so many doors of opportunity and we are thankful for that.
