Support our work: [Donate to 350.org](https://act.350.org/donate/parisresponse_donate/) ### Since the Paris Deal was signed, we’ve seen amazing steps forward for climate action: **Global carbon emissions stopped growing** – The amount of carbon pumped into the atmosphere worldwide has [stopped increasing](https://www.reuters.com/article/us-carbon-emissions-iea-idUSKBN16O10B) without an economic recession for the first time since records started being kept. **Coal is collapsing –** The number of planned coal plants worldwide is [down by 2/3rds](https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/mar/22/coal-power-plants-green-energy-china-india) and India [just cancelled](https://www.independent.co.uk/environment/india-solar-power-electricity-cancels-coal-fired-power-stations-record-low-a7751916.html) 14GW worth of planned coal plants, and South Korea’s new government [pledged to shut down](https://qz.com/983626/moon-jae-in-south-koreas-new-president-is-shutting-down-10-big-coal-power-plants-in-his-first-week-in-office/) existing plants and review plans for new ones. **Electric cars keep switching on –** A new study by a researcher at Stanford University concluded that every new car, truck or bus sold in the year 2025 [could be electric powered](https://www.financialpost.com/m/wp/news/transportation/blog.html?b=business.financialpost.com/news/transportation/fossil-fuel-vehicles-will-vanish-in-8-years-in-twin-death-spiral-for-big-oil-and-big-autos-says-study-that-shocking-the-industry). ### But we’ve also seen the worst impacts of climate change grow even greater: **2016 was the hottest year [ever recorded](https://www.nasa.gov/press-release/nasa-noaa-data-show-2016-warmest-year-on-record-globally/).** The previous record holders? 2015 and 2014. Climate change is speeding up. **[Stronger storms](https://350.org/science/#impacts).** Extreme flooding has hit every continent, and record breaking storms have swept the Pacific. They formed a red line with their bodies, with giant banners, and with 5,000 red tulips — a line representing both the victims of the climate crisis past and present, and our collective commitment to keep fighting for the things we love.
