He was named as one of the winners of the 2010 "Champions of the Earth" award. From the underwater cabinet meeting to his survival speech last November, from declaring a national goal of carbon neutrality in 10 years to leading a rally at the UN climate negotiations in Copenhagen this past December, President Nasheed has undoutedly been one of the climate movement's great champions in the last year.
Congratulations to President Nasheed, and to all the passionate and active citizens in the Maldives working to make their country a role model for climate action. Now it's time for all of us to Get to Work at the scale of ambition as the Maldives.
