FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GLOBAL: Anne Jellema Appointed Executive Director of 350.org at a Crucial Moment for the Climate Movement
350.org is proud to announce the appointment of Anne Jellema as its new Executive Director, succeeding May Boeve, who led the organization through an extraordinary 15 years of global advocacy to end fossil fuels. Anne brings over two decades of experience in building global movements for human rights and social justice.
Anne’s appointment comes at a pivotal moment; 2025 is a decisive year in the fight to protect our planet. 2024 was a wake-up call: it was the hottest year on record, yet coal consumption reached a new peak – the time to tackle climate change is right now.
Anne Jellema, Executive Director, 350.org said:
“This is such a compelling moment to join the climate movement.Communities around the world are being ravaged by wildfires, floods and hurricanes, yet our leaders shrink from challenging the multi-trillion dollar fossil fuel industry that’s supercharging global heating. 350 is helping people take back control over their own future with practical and affordable solutions like community-led renewable energy. Through grassroot campaigns such as Tax Their Billions, REPowerAfrika, Energia dos Povos and Heat Pumps for All, our local groups worldwides are lighting the path to a safe and equitable world.
Rashmi Mistry, 350.org Board Chair and co-founder of Better by Codesign, emphasized the importance of Anne’s leadership at this time:
“Anne joins at a time when repressive governments and their elite friends around the world are making it harder for people to speak out for justice and prosperity for people and planet. 350’s movement building work has never been more important and Anne’s strategic expertise and deep commitment to people power will help us support even more people to organize worldwide for collective solutions to the climate crisis.”
A look ahead to some of the work 350.org will be undertaking in 2025 under Anne’s leadership:
-
Train 275+ activists from 70 different countries to help sprout new campaigns and scale up community-led renewable projects across the world.
-
Connect and equip communities that are reclaiming their power by producing renewable energy with 350’s Our Own Power Global Network
-
Double-down our pressure to make billionaires pay for the urgent shift to renewable, affordable energy for all by reiterating our call to Tax Their Billions.
-
Demand that our governments do their part to end the climate crisis and deliver bold national climate action plans this year, ahead of COP30 in Brazil.
