In response to the UK government’s announcement to ban fracking, 350.org UK campaigner Anna Vickerstaff says:
“Today marks the final blow for fracking in the UK. The tenacious campaigning of local communities has forced the hand of the Conservative government to ban dangerous, climate wrecking fracking. Backed by national opposition, together we defeated the industry before it even started.
After years of resistance, the government had no choice but to admit defeat and make this decision. A late move from the Conservatives, but a timely victory for the climate. This is a victory of people power and a display of what’s to come with more and more people demanding an end to fossil fuels and taking action for climate justice.”
