OCTOBER 7: Solidarity School to explore connections between voter suppression & climate justice

Third of four mass calls to take place on Voter Suppression & Climate Justice, with final Solidarity School happening Nov 11 post-election.

USA — In this moment of palpable urgency around the compound crises of COVID-19, anti-Black violence, a lingering economic crisis, and fossil-fueled climate change causing devastating impacts, 350 US is organizing the first-ever Solidarity School series. Solidarity School is a series of four online mass meetings in the lead-up to, and following, the November election.

The next mass call on Wednesday, October 7th, will feature including Anoa Changa, movement journalist with Prism.org, and Leslie Mac of Black Voters Matter. Speakers will explore the reality of voter suppression across the country, and how we can rise up to protect the vote and fight for climate justice.

“Across the country, voter suppression is being ignored by local officials and decision-makers. It’s going to take a united and concerted effort to make sure every vote is counted, and to ensure our democracy is protected,” said Dominique Thomas, 350.org New York & Mid-Atlantic Organizer. “Protecting our democracy doesn’t mean just voting. It means protecting the vote, it means protecting those protesting in the face of injustice and ensuring our freedom. It means that dissent is patriotic. It means collective healing. We must rip down and build from the ashes new systems that benefit our communities and provide cadence to our form of cool.”
