In response, **350.org co-founder Bill McKibben said,** “The American Medical Association played a crucial role in changing public perception of the tobacco industry, and now they’re doing it again. They know that the greatest threat to public health in the 21st century is a fast-heating climate.” To date, over 880 institutions from all sectors of society representing [more than $6 trillion](https://gofossilfree.org/divestment/commitments/) in assets have committed to some level of divestment.
