In response to the news that Steven Guilbeault is departing from the Liberal caucus and resigning as a Member of Parliament, Atiya Jaffar, 350.org Canada Country Manager issued the following statement:

> “For the last year, Prime Minister Carney has handed Big Oil and mega-corporations everything on their wish list. Now, it’s clear that his disregard for climate action, environmental protections, and Indigenous rights has come at the cost of his own team’s support. From the scathing [report](https://www.ourcommons.ca/documentviewer/en/45-1/ENVI/report-3) recently released by the parliamentary Committee on Environment, to the critical [letter](https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/liberal-mp-react-alberta-deal-carney-9.7208157) from Liberal MPs, to Steven Guilbeault’s resignation today, it’s clear that Carney’s climate backsliding is creating major cracks in the Liberal caucus.”

Jaffar added:

> “It’s not too late to change course. It’s about time Carney listened to people from coast to coast to coast including Indigenous peoples, workers, and his very own Members of Parliament. Instead of rapidly slashing climate policies, gutting environmental protections, and building toxic pipelines, Carney could accelerate a renewable energy transition and invest in critical climate solutions that are actually in our national interest such as a clean East-West North Grid.”
