16 November 2025 – Belém (PA) – This morning, the Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (APIB) led the global march “The Answer is Us” at COP30, bringing together Indigenous peoples from all Brazilian biomes and international delegations in a collective call for life, future, and climate justice. The mobilization proceeded to Bosque Rodrigues Alves – “the real Green Zone,” – to demand the demarcation and protection of Indigenous territories, the phase out of fossil fuels, and direct access to climate finance. The march also took place in a context of increasing rights violations, marked by new attacks against Indigenous peoples in Brazil.

Dinaman Tuxá, executive coordinator of APIB, stated:
“Today, on Indigenous Peoples’ Day at COP30, we are marching to the real green zone, Bosque Rodrigues Alves, a space of resistance here in Belém, to demand the demarcation and protection of Indigenous Lands as climate policy, zero deforestation, an end to fossil fuels, and an end to mining in our territories. We also cannot forget the protection of Indigenous peoples, the true guardians of the environment. Yesterday we had yet another case of violence against the Guarani Kaiowá people, which resulted in the murder of a relative. This is unacceptable! Enough of our genocide! We want the demarcation and protection of our territories.”

The mobilization comes at a critical moment of COP30, as negotiations on the fossil fuel phase out and climate finance enter their decisive phase, and shortly after the release of the Presidency’s consultative text, which opens the final dispute for a real, 1.5°C-aligned agreement.

350.org: “The answer lies with the peoples and with political courage to confront fossil fuels”

For 350.org, the mobilization led by APIB highlights what is missing in the official COP spaces: ambition aligned with science and guaranteed rights for the peoples who protect the planet’s most vital biomes.

Ilan Zugman, Latin America Director at 350.org, stated:
“There is no climate justice without Indigenous leadership and without protecting their territories. Indigenous peoples have been doing for centuries what governments still fail to do: caring for the forest, the climate, and life without polluting. COP30 will only be historic if it delivers a clear roadmap to eliminate fossil fuels, triple renewable energy, and secure direct public financing for the communities that truly protect the planet. Without this, there is no response worthy of the crisis.”
