350.org Speaks Out on NY AG Abuse Accusations, Denounces Violence Against Women

New York, NY — In response to yesterday’s piece in The New Yorker, 350.org Executive Director May Boeve issued the following statement on multiple women’s accusations of abuse from New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman:

In the past, 350.org has expressed support for New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman’s climate leadership, especially around investigations into all that Exxon knew and hid about climate change. Therefore, we recognize our duty to speak out against the violent behavior from Schneiderman shared through multiple accounts.

We applaud the courage of all the women who spoke up to bring these abuses to light. We can only build a world that works for everyone by recognizing that our struggles are interconnected. Around the world, it’s women who bear the brunt of climate destruction. In this respect, the fight for climate justice is inherently a fight for gender justice.

We refuse to turn a blind eye on violence against women and vulnerable communities, and we will continue to work with true champions to protect all our communities and build a just world for all.

In the wake of this news, we recommend this piece from author and activist Rebecca Solnit.
