350.org responds to the Government of Canada’s Sustainable Jobs Action Plan

Toronto, ON – Responding to the Sustainable Jobs Action Plan released today by the Government of Canada, Amara Possian, Interim Canada Team Lead with 350.org issued this statement:

“We are pleased the government has finally provided details about how they intend to deliver the just transition that Prime Minister Trudeau first promised workers back in 2019, but this plan leaves too much room for the fossil fuel industry to block progress. Taking the climate emergency seriously means no more public money for false solutions like carbon capture, utilization and storage that will only lock workers into the dying fossil fuel era.

The Trudeau government needs to back up this action plan in the coming months with unprecedented investments in real climate solutions and binding legislation. Canadians deserve a plan that aligns with climate science, guarantees a good, unionized, green job to anyone who wants one, and puts people first, not corporate profits.”
