Edmonton, AB – After months of public pressure calling for Justin Trudeau and his government to deliver on their 2019 promise to deliver a Just Transition Act, the Government of Canada announced a plan to begin the process of drafting Just Transition legislation. 350.org’s Emma Jackson issued this response:
“Today, most of Canada is either on fire, flooding or covered in wildfire smoke, making a clear case that this is the moment to think big and move fast to get Canada off fossil fuels and ensure a just transition for workers and communities. It’s been two years since Justin Trudeau first made this promise and today’s announcement is thanks to tens of thousands of people mobilizing and speaking up in support of a Just Transition Act. Canada is already behind on making this happen but we’re excited to keep pushing for Just Transition legislation that meets the scale of the climate emergency and works for people, not fossil fuel billionaires.
