350.org is looking for an experienced campaigner to help make the fossil fuel divestment movement in the UK louder, larger, and more diverse. This is an 8-month contract position, on 5 days per week.

About the UK Divestment Campaigner position

We’re looking for an experienced campaigner to help make the fossil fuel divestment movement in the UK louder, larger, and more diverse. This person will be the UK coordinator of the Fossil Free campaign, committed to empowering others and helping to build a grassroots movement that will break the links between our institutions and the fossil fuel industry.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with and support the work of existing divestment partners (People & Planet and Operation Noah) and allies in the UK.

  • Develop collaborations with new allies, especially outside of our usual networks, and with groups that will help fill the research needs of the campaign.

  • Identify and support local campaign leaders and organisers in developing more effective and inclusive divestment campaigns.

  • Encourage the creation of campaigns and actions to put pressure on divestment targets and raise the profile of the campaign in the country, especially considering the use of creativity, direct action and civil disobedience.

  • Create and run strategic campaigns and actions aimed at key divestment targets.

  • Help support our work with existing divestment targets, but also identify new kinds of targets the campaign could reach out to.

  • Produce relevant content (online and offline) to support divestment campaigns.

Required skills and experiences

  • 3-5 years of experience leading campaigns and organising within non-governmental organisations or grassroots networks.

  • Experience in building coalitions and making the most of the different approaches coalition members bring to the cause.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience in creating online and offline campaign support content.

  • Understanding the role of creativity, direct action and civil disobedience in campaigns.

  • Proven ability to work both independently and in close coordination with a team working remotely.

Desirable (but not required) skills and experiences

  • Understanding of investment-related issues.

  • Good links into financial networks and organisations.

  • Group coaching, training, and facilitation.

  • Online-to-offline strategy development.

Position Type: full time
