# Tell Standard Bank: Drop EACOP!

If built, the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) would have disastrous consequences for local communities and wildlife in Uganda and Tanzania – and for the entire planet.

Tens of banks have ruled out financing EACOP, but Africa’s biggest bank – Standard Bank – is still backing it. Their money is critical in getting this pipeline up and running.

Earlier this year, they lost a major business relationship because they wouldn’t drop EACOP – the huge US PR firm, Edelman.

**This shows that all the noise we’ve been making about the horrors of this pipeline is working. We’re making EACOP so toxic that its backers are losing business partners.**

2. Either post a message on their page or pick one of their recent posts (doesn’t matter which one) and leave a message in a comment.
3. In the comment, say how angry you are that they are funding Total’s East African Crude Oil Pipeline, and ask them to stop and then mention any of the following: 
    - Ask why they are still considering involvement in EACOP despite the human rights violations this project has been notorious for.
    - Ask why they are still financing fossil fuel projects when we’re in a climate crisis.
    - Tell them they need to look beyond corporate greed and profits and start supporting projects that will benefit the African people, rather than harmful and polluting projects, like EACOP.
    - Ask them to drop EACOP and other fossil fuel projects that will have disastrous impacts on people, nature and the climate, and tell them to finance community-led renewable energy instead.
    - Ask why they’re backing a project that risks poisoning the water supply of more than 40 million people in Uganda and Tanzania.
