Friday was a day of incredible hope and with deep sadness.

As we celebrate the incredible achievement of these young people mobilising 1.6 million people in their fight for a livable climate, we express our grief, and pledge our commitment to do better at fighting white supremacy in our work. There is no justice for our planet without justice for all people. Issues of climate change and racism are intertwined, and must be fought side by side.

As we reflect on all the young people who took to the streets on Friday, and how far that shows our movement has come in this fight, we know there is more work to be done.

Social movements make the impossible possible. They disrupt broken social orders, they spark human imagination and they show us how powerful we really can be when we stand together. With climate science becoming increasingly urgent and apocalyptic, and with the rise of white supremacy and the hardening of national borders, we need those sparks of inspiration and imagination more than ever.

As this new generation expands the horizons of possibility, it’s up to us to make sure those sparks of hope become wildfires of action.

Young people are shifting the terrain of politics as usual and opening up new possibilities. Things that felt impossible last week seem within reach today. This is the power of social movements, of people acting together and a new generation emerging who are owning their moral authority, speaking courageously and demanding justice.

Which is why we are committing, right now, to doing more.

As more people join our movement we are capable of doing more powerful things. As new things become possible it is our responsibility to act with bravery and ambition.

As we look towards 2020, we know that the window for solving the climate crisis, and the connected injustices, is closing. It’s time to recommit to doing everything we can in this fight for our future.

We all need to reflect on what more we can do to follow the lead of these kids and fight for a future and we want to hear from you. We are adjusting on our plans for the coming year in light of these mobilisations and your feedback is critical.

Fill out this short survey to help us shape our plans for 2019 and 2020. It will only take a minute.

You will be hearing more from us about what those plans for 2019 and 2020 look like as we build in more ambition. For now, share this amazing moment with your friends on social media or forward this email. It’s time for them to get involved in this fight.

Onwards,

May Boeve
