Ask your MP to stop Rosebank

A key part of stopping Rosebank is making sure all politicians hear directly from their constituents that Rosebank is a bad deal – both for the climate and for the UK economy.

Will you contact your MP to ask them to oppose Rosebank?

TALKING POINTS TO HELP YOU DRAFT YOUR MESSAGE:

  • IT WON’T LOWER ENERGY BILLS: Rosebank won’t lower energy bills. The oil will be sold on the international market to the highest bidder and profits will go to the oil giant Equinor – and its majority owner, the Norwegian state.[1]
  • JOBS: Doubling down on oil and gas is not the solution to secure, long-term jobs for UK oil and gas workers. Equinor has decided to construct the main offshore vessel for Rosebank in Dubai, and – as unions have noted – not a single design or construction job has yet been created by the project in the UK, with contracts being “siphoned off overseas”.[2]
  • CLIMATE IMPACT: Burning Rosebank’s oil and gas would produce over 200 million tonnes of CO2, more than the 28 lowest-income countries produce in a year combined. [3]
  • NATURE IMPACT: Rosebank will have a pipeline through a specially-protected seabed – the Faroe-Shetland Sponge Belt, potentially harming this fragile ecosystem and the creatures within it.
  • WHAT WE SHOULD BE DOING INSTEAD: The only way to permanently lower bills and deliver genuine energy security is to insulate homes and accelerate the building of homegrown renewable energy.
  • ASK THEM TO MEET & SIGN THE PLEDGE : If you feel up for it, you can end the email by asking for a meeting with your MP. This would give you the chance to speak to them face to face (or on a video call) and tell them why this is such an important issue to you and many of their constituents. You can also ask them to sign the MP pledge hosted by our friends at Stop Rosebank

If you get a response, or you meet with your MP, please let us know how it went by emailing [email protected].
