350: Pope Francis’ Speech Underlines Need for Real Leadership on Climate Change
After a speech made by Pope Francis to a Joint Meeting of the U.S. Congress, 350.org Executive Director May Boeve issued the following statement:
“Pope Francis’ words, coming on the heels of a powerful encyclical in June calling on world leaders to act on climate, are yet another sign that communities of faith everywhere are uniting behind the need for real leadership on climate change. From the Pope to the Dalai Lama to Islamic and Jewish leaders to the Orthodox Church, faith voices around the world are speaking with one voice, and reminding the world that we have a moral responsibility to act on climate, protect vulnerable communities on the front lines of crisis, and safeguard our planet for future generations. Just months before historic climate talks in Paris, we hope leaders are listening.”
