Last week, we achieved a major win.
After months of relentless attacks on climate policy and environmental protection, the federal government has finally slowed down thanks to people power. After hearing from thousands of us, they delayed their plans to turn a devastating proposal for fast-tracking the approval of destructive megaprojects into legislation.
This is a step in the right direction, and it shows that they’re feeling the heat, but it’s only a pause in their fossil fuel expansion agenda.
That’s why, in just over two weeks, we’re going to ramp up the pressure.
Now that the Alberta/Canada Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed, we’re expecting a pipeline route as early as July 1st. One week before that deadline – on Thursday, June 25th – we are hitting the streets and calling on MPs to sign an MOU with the people — a deal to protect our communities and our climate. We’re calling it the People’s MOU Day of Action.

Momentum is on our side. Just today, we released an open letter with 60+ civil society organizations across Canada, including Canada’s largest union, CUPE, calling for an Excess Profits Tax on the oil and gas industry.
It’s clear that resistance to the fossil fuel industry’s winning streak is mounting and the government will be forced to pick a side.
