#### JOIN US ON JUNE 25 FOR THE ![](https://350.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Website-Wordmark-Peoples-MOU-700x273.png)

NO PIPELINES, NO BACKSLIDING, AND NO HANDOUTS FOR BIG OIL.
The Canadian government’s latest Pipeline MOU with Alberta is the final nail in the coffin for Canada’s climate policy. It’s time to rise up and stop Big Oil from winning everything on their wishlist.

On June 25th, join us for a national day of action calling on Members of Parliament to sign an MOU _with the people_ — a deal to protect our communities, our climate, and our future.

**Here’s Our Plan**

### Head to your MP’s office on June 25th

On June 25th, one week before the proposed route for the West Coast pipeline is set to be announced, people from across Canada will take action at their local MP offices.

Together, we will deliver massive copies of the “People’s MOU” and call on our elected leaders to sign a deal with the people.

Our goal is to demonstrate widespread public opposition to the federal government’s recent actions to slash climate policies, gut environmental protection, and fast-track destructive fossil fuel projects.

### What is the People’s MOU?

It’s an agreement that we are asking our federal leaders to sign with their constituents — a deal to prioritize our communities, our climate, and our future over Big Oil’s profits.

**We, the people, commit to defending the safety of our communities, the wellbeing of our ecosystems, and the future of our planet.**

**And we urge you, as a representative of the Government of Canada, to commit to:**

- **Stop fast-tracking destruction:** Abandon the dangerous recent proposal that exempts mega-projects from safety and environmental regulations. **Protect our communities and the land:** Uphold Indigenous rights, environmental protections, and ensure meaningful consultations with impacted communities.
- **Stop building climate-burning pipelines:** Reject the proposed toxic tar sands pipeline from Alberta to the Pacific coast, and end all new oil, coal, and gas extraction in Canada. **Accelerate the energy transition:** Deliver a strong climate action plan and launch a roadmap to phase out fossil fuels while supporting workers and communities.
- **Stop letting Big Oil profit at our expense:** Impose a 75% excess profits tax on the wartime windfall of fossil fuel companies and end subsidies for the fossil fuel industry. **Fund our future:** Invest in East-West-North electricity grids that bring affordable, renewable energy to all, while uplifting Indigenous leadership and creating tens of thousands of good, green jobs.

**Host an Action**

Take action at your MP office on June 25th. We will support you every step of the way with a [toolkit](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zk7bYAK5i1tIXNtMjqKswAOVcnckwwqd_hnzCIZoepQ/edit?usp=sharing), one-on-one coaching, and a small budget to cover event costs.

### What is the Pipeline MOU with Alberta and why should I be concerned?

In May 2026, Prime Minister Carney and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith signed the Alberta/Canada MOU which we consider to be the final nail in the coffin for Canada’s climate policies.

This is an agreement to build a West Coast pipeline, a massive project that would serve as an artery to the expansion of one of the world’s largest carbon bombs: the [Alberta Tar Sands](http://environmentaldefence.ca/tar-sands/). The tar sands are one of the dirtiest sources of carbon in the world and the largest source of [Canada’s climate emissions](https://www.canada.ca/en/environment-climate-change/services/environmental-indicators/greenhouse-gas-emissions.html). Building this pipeline would be fully incompatible with Canada’s international commitments for climate action.

In addition, the pipeline would pose huge risks to communities all along its routes including Indigenous communities that have not given their Free Prior and Informed Consent.

The MOU is not just a pipeline deal. It’s a decimation of Canadian climate policy. It rolls back the pollution cap on the oil and gas industry, weakens clean electricity rules, reduces greenwashing rules, subsidizes more oil production, and, guts the carbon pricing policy. In short, this MOU is a gift to Big Oil on a golden platter.

### What are the **federal** government’s attacks to climate and the environment?

- **Pipeline MOU:** The federal government’s pipeline MOU with Alberta is a deal to build a toxic tar sands pipeline that our climate can’t afford and that will likely cost tax payers billions of dollars.
- **Gutting climate action policies:** Every major climate policy that we’ve won over the last decade has been slashed in the last year including the clean electricity regulation, carbon pricing, and the pollution cap on the oil and gas industry. Plus, they built the Major Projects Office, headed by the former CEO of the Trans Mountain Pipeline, to accelerate new fossil fuel expansion projects that would cook our climate. As the climate emergency intensifies world wide, this is an unacceptable direction!
- **Slashing environmental protections:** The Carney government has created loopholes that hand mega-corporations a free pass to ignore critical legislation in place to protect wildlife, fragile ecosystems, and our waterways. Now, if their latest plan for “getting major projects built” becomes legislation, Environmental Impact Assessments would no longer be required for new pipelines, Federal Destruction Zones will be created where all new development is “pre-approved,” and habitats for endangered species would be open to decimation.
- **Tax dollar money for Big Oil:** LNG projects, unproven Carbon and Capture Projects, and (most likely) major pipeline projects are expected to receive billions in public funds at a time when the oil and gas industry is already robbing struggling households in broad daylight, with Canadian fossil fuel companies expected to rake in billions in excess profits from the Iran war.

### Why is it important to take action right now?

**Over the last year, the federal government handed Big Oil everything on their wish list.** But now, they are finally feeling the heat.

In early June, people power pushed the federal government to delay their latest plan for massive regulatory cuts. And we’ve successfully created fractures around climate and environment in Prime Minister Carney’s own caucus. It’s time to ramp up pressure the pressure.

It’s time to ramp up pressure ahead of the July 1st deadline for the West Coast Pipeline Route. **That’s why, we’re mobilizing for the People’s MOU Day of Action on June 25th.**
