350.org is a member of Climate Action Network (CAN) – a global coaltion of civil society organizations tackling the climate crisis and campaigning for social justice. Below is a joint statement from Climate Action Network about the escalating violence by Israel in Lebanon and Palestine.
There is no peace without justice. There is no climate justice without human rights.
CAN condemns the current escalation of violence and the Israeli bombardment of Lebanon. This crisis reminds us that climate justice and human rights are inseparable—both demand that every person, no matter where they live, is afforded dignity, safety, and the chance to thrive. Therefore, CAN calls on all governments and other parties to recognise their moral duty to break the horrific cycle of violence and oppression tearing through Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon.
We cannot stand by while the systematic destruction of life unfolds before our eyes. The bombardment of civilians, the deployment of tanks on the border of Lebanon with the threat of ground invasion by Israel, the escalation in the West Bank and the unfolding genocide in Gaza are not only clear violations of international law, they are an affront to humanity and must cease immediately. We must act decisively to end Israel’s crimes and make an unyielding stand for justice, equality, and peace.
The message from the global majority of the world is clear: When both the UN General Assembly and the International Court of Justice demand an end to Israel’s unlawful occupation of Palestine, it is a call for justice that cannot be ignored. Yet, the Occupation continues, the violence now escalating into Lebanon with relentless brutality, openly defies international law and human rights. The failure of the global community to protect the millions of civilians affected by these atrocities erodes its credibility as well as that of the international institutions that have been established to take care of the security and protection of the peoples of the world. The ICJ advisory opinion and the UNGA resolution were both clear about the responsibilities of all governments.
CAN therefore demands:
- An end to the illegal Israeli Occupation and the full implementation of Israel’s obligations as set out in the ICJ advisory opinion.
- An immediate and permanent ceasefire.
- An immediate arms embargo against Israel and an end to the supply of fossil fuels and other materials to Israel which contribute to fuelling the genocide and conflict, in accordance with international law.
- All UN member states take all actions against Israel to end the occupation in accordance with the UNGA resolution, including implementing sanctions against Israel.
All violence must stop, and those enabling the conflict must be held accountable.
This is not just about Palestine and Lebanon—it is about the very future of international law, human dignity, and the pursuit of global peace. We cannot allow history to repeat itself. We cannot turn our backs on the suffering of entire peoples. Every moment we delay costs innocent lives.
Now is the time to raise your voice.
Together, we must demand action from our leaders. Together, we must stand for peace and justice.
