World Environment Day is the United Nation’s flagship day for the environment. This day is the UN’s principle vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of the environment. This year’s observance of World Environment Day will also mark the formal launch of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, which is being led by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The overarching theme is ‘ecosystem restoration’ and emphasizing the need to reset our relationship with nature.
There has never been a more urgent time to restore the planet, and the Decade aims to prevent, halt and reverse the degradation of ecosystems worldwide. The concert event also serves as a moment for us all to come together and reimagine the world in which we live and wish to live in. World Environment Day is a time to revisit how we can move forward to restore our communities, our ecosystems, and our climate. We all have the power to inspire action, and we hope that through this virtual festival people around the world will find new ways that they can contribute to a positive change, a just recovery and a sustainable world.
