350.org’s Bill McKibben on the Trump Administration Cutting Auto Mileage Rules: “They should expect massive resistance.”

Washington, DC — Yesterday, the Trump Administration and EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt announced plans to slash comprehensive Obama-era automobile mileage standards.

In response, author and 350.org co-founder Bill McKibben offered the following statement:

“The automakers and the Trump administration have literally declared they’re incapable of innovation; it’s a dishonorable surrender in the face of our enormous environmental challenges. And if they try to strong arm California into going along, they should expect massive resistance.”

This announcement comes five months ahead of the California-based Global Climate Action Summit, where non-federal officials from around the world will gather to announcement climate action commitments. Thousands of people across the U.S. and around the world are bringing the Fossil Free fight right to their communities, demanding bold and sweeping climate action from local electeds in the lead-up to the Global Climate Action Summit.
