Drawing The Line in Belém Against Oil in the Amazon and for a Just Transition Toward COP30
MEDIA ADVISORY
On September 21, Belém will host the “Delimite” mobilization, part of the global Draw the Line actions that unite voices worldwide to draw a line against inequality, fossil fuels, environmental destruction, and violence — and in favor of a just transition, human rights, democracy, renewable energy, sustainable food systems, and real financing for community-led solutions.
In Belém, Delimite is being organized in alliance with artisanal fishers from the Jubim community on Marajó Island, the Pororoka Collective, the Amazonian Labor Network, the Coordination of Indigenous Organizations of the Brazilian Amazon, 350.org, Climainfo, the Marajó Observatory, and the “The Answer Is Us” campaign, which brings together the Indigenous movement, riverine and quilombola communities, as well as civil society, to expose the contradiction between President Lula’s climate leadership narrative and the government’s advancing plans to open the Amazon River Mouth to oil drilling.
The message is clear: there can be no coherent COP30 with new oil wells in the Amazon.
What will happen?
- Sunday, September 21 (morning, exact time TBC): Fishing communities in Marajó will come together to form a line of 20 boats in Jubim, with a giant banner demanding no COP30 with oil in the Amazon and drawing a line against the climate crisis and political inaction. Photos, B-roll footage of the boats, aerial images, and interviews with local spokespeople will be available to the press at the end of the day.
If you would like to receive materials, images, or speak with spokespeople, please let us know!
Brazil is at the center of the global climate debate. With COP30 set to take place in Belém, the world expects coherence and real action — not just promises. This mobilization sends a clear message from the streets, rivers, and forests: the answer is us, not oil.

The Draw the Line mobilization will bring together over 250 decentralized actions in more than 100 countries around the world to draw a line against the climate crisis and demand a just energy transition. In Brazil, in addition to Delimite in Belém, there will also be actions on September 19 in Manaus during the COParente (Indigenous movement) event and in Macapá at the APOIANP general assembly. Across Latin America, mobilizations will take place in Valledupar and Santa Marta in Colombia and in Puerto Rico, connecting local struggles to a global call for climate justice.
