350.org on New York City filing to reverse district court climate lawsuit ruling

New York, NY — Last night, New York city filed its appeal to reverse a district court ruling in the climate change lawsuit.

In response, Jamie Henn, 350.org co-founder and Strategic Communications Director said:

“The City’s case is bulletproof. There’s no doubt New York City is being hurt by climate change, just look at Hurricane Sandy and ongoing recovery six years later. There’s no doubt it’s Big Oil’s fault, just read the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report. And there’s no doubt the federal government isn’t addressing the issue, just look at Trump’s recent bogus statements about climate change. In pursuing this case, Mayor de Blasio has the support of every New Yorker being impacted by the climate crisis, AKA all of us.”

Last month’s report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warned we have just over a decade to take meaningful action on climate action.

This comes just two weeks after outgoing state New York Attorney General Barbara Underwood announced a monumental lawsuit against ExxonMobil for deceiving its shareholders and downplaying the risks of climate change to its business. Attorney General-elect Tish James has stated her commitment to carry this lawsuit forward.
