The results are in. With over 10,000 votes counted, we’re thrilled to announce that Climate will be the topic of Blog Action Day 2009! 350.org is partnering with Blog Action Day to make it the largest social change event on the web ever. Yes, ever!

In less than six hours since the announcement, 474 blogs in 53 countries with a combined total of 3,762,816 readers have already signed on to spread the word about climate action. Last year, over 12,000 bloggers reached more than 13… MILLION people (cue Austin Powers laugh). With your help, this year will be even bigger.

Blog Action Day is October 15th, nine days before the October 24th International Day of Climate Action – when we’ll show that the world is coming together for 350 and a safe climate future.

Imagine millions of people reading about the 350 campaign online and then joining an event in their community on October 24th. Inspiring, right? We can do this.

To keep the momentum going online, we’re asking you to:
1) Sign up your blog (if you have one) for Blog Action Day 2009 and blog about 350 and October 24th.
2) Ask your blogger friends and family to sign up for Blog Action Day 2009 and blog about 350 and October 24th.
We’ve come a long way for 350, and we’re just getting started.

Just three weeks ago we asked you to show your support and you came through big-time to vote for climate in the Blog Action Day poll and make this collaboration possible. Two days ago you woke up the world to take action on climate change with our partners in the Tck Tck Tck campaign. Then yesterday, at the United Nations, President Mohamed Nasheed of the Maldives Islands told world leaders that a Copenhagen agreement that doesn’t get to 350 will threaten the very existence of his nation.

President Nasheed has made it clear that business-as-usual will not suffice. Bottomline, whether you’re tweeting from the breakfast table or have never even read a blog (unlikely, if you’re reading this…), continue to spread the word and organize for 350 and the International Day of Climate Action on October 24th!

onwards,
Matt and the 350 media team
