Dozens of climate activists taking part in the Disrupt Fossil Finance mass action training this weekend, marched to the European Investment Bank to take their demands for a #FossilFreeEIB straight to the bank’s doorstep.

The science is clear: no more fossil fuel-burning projects can be built if we are to have any chance of stopping the worst impacts of the climate crisis.

Tonny was one of the activists who called on the EIB to stop financing fossil fuel projects.

But the EIB continues to use public European money to finance the fossil industry. The €1.5 billion loan they granted to Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) last year shows that while the Bank calls itself a “climate leader”, it still directly funds fossil gas projects which fuel the climate breakdown, and oppress local communities.

Tonny, one of the activists calling on the EIB to stop financing fossil fuels, said: “We’re here to draw attention to the EIB how the fossil fuel industry is the main reason behind the climate crisis we are facing today. We want them to stop supporting the fossil fuel industry everywhere.”

The action takes place just one week before the 28 EU Finance Ministers – the EIB’s Board of Governors – will be holding meetings to review the bank’s energy lending policies.

This means that putting them under public pressure has never been more important. So watch this 30s video from the action and share it to join us in calling for a #FossilFreeEIB!
