The red and white car in the background is one of about 5 UN Police cars
that escorted the march. After we got to the end and were planting
mangroves, they sat with their AC on and engines running. When we asked
them to turn of their engines, they agreed — and admitted that the UN had a
rule not to run engines while parked, but that it is almost never followed.
We plan to follow up on this with the UN and the gov't, as hundreds of
vehicle-hours go by every day here with engines running while not going
anywhere. It's a small step which can help raise awareness.
