Toronto, ON – In response to the passage of Bill C-12 in the House of Commons, 350.org Canada Campaigns Director, Amara Possian, issued this statement:
“This is a big win for people power. Without public pressure, C-12 would have been a shell of what was passed late last night. But the bill still isn’t strong enough to ensure Canada truly tackles the climate emergency. To do that, we need Justin Trudeau to follow through on his 2019 promise to pass a Just Transition Act, ensuring that no one is left behind as we transition quickly off of fossil fuels. Without tackling our largest source of emissions, climate accountability legislation like C-12 simply won’t deliver for working people or the planet.”
